Kattradhu Thamizh, earlier titled Tamil M. A., is an Indian Tamil psychological thriller film written and directed by Ram. Produced by Salmara Mohammad Sharief, it stars Jiiva, Anjali and Karunas. Music by Yuvan Shankar Raja, the camera was handled by S. R. Kathir, and produced by M R Film Productions. The film was released to unanimous critical acclaim, garnering a cult following later. One of the soundtracks composed by Yuvan Shankar Raja to the lyrics written by Na. Muthukumar, sung by his father, Ilaiyaraaja, was hailed mostly as the pick of the album.
The film is about an ordinary young Tamil-postgraduate, who becomes a hapless, tortured victim of urban city’s gentrification, fuelled by the booming IT industry, slowly losing his mental balance and becoming a sociopath. The movie explores what might become of a society that ignores and undervalues the education and practice of arts, humanities and basic human values.
